Sharing innovative ideas | UDaily – University of Delaware

The saying “teamwork makes the dream work” was on full display at the University of Delaware’s second annual One Idea, One Slide Summit on May 17.
An initiative of the Office of the Provost, the Summit is a collaborative forum for faculty and staff to share their exciting ideas that advance academic excellence in research, education and impact.
Seventy presenters, collaborators and others interested in the Summit gathered in Mitchell Hall as Provost Laura Carlson kicked off the event and expressed her excitement about hearing the proposals.

“This is an incredible opportunity to share ideas across campus and build inclusive teams to pursue those ideas,” Carlson said. “I’m committed to providing pathways for all the ideas presented at the Summit,” with some becoming proposals to the Unidel Foundation and others receiving seed funding or support from the Provost’s Office program incubator.

The presentations were reminiscent of an elevator pitch accompanied by a visual aid; presenters had just two minutes to communicate their idea. Proposals represented various fields such as artificial intelligence, mentoring, financial technology, sustainability and more.
Jamie Bailey, teacher preparation recruiter, discussed her idea for recruiting students into the education department at UD as early as eighth grade.
“It’s a great opportunity for them to be on campus and recognize that they belong here,” Bailey said.
Last year Bailey presented an idea that would award scholarship opportunities for incoming students and allow faculty to adjust their curriculums to serve as pathways into residency. Her idea received funding and is currently in the process of being staffed.
Christine Cucciarre, professor of English, watched recordings of last year’s Summit, which helped her prepare for her presentation this year: adoption of the writing-enriched curriculum model.
“Events like this and the networking opportunities afterwards give us opportunities to connect,” Cucciarre said.
