Tennessee’s Department of Economic and Community Development has announced a $3 million expansion of auto technology manufacturer OPmobility’s plant in Spring Hill.
OPmobility (formerly Plastic Omnium) will expand its exteriors group to offer more products for electric vehicle production by adding 186 new jobs to the plant. Currently, the plant has just 18 employees, according to a TNECD release.
The company has had a Tennessee presence since 2015 with locations in Chattanooga, Smyrna and Hendersonville in addition to Spring Hill. OPmobility, which is headquartered in France, employs more than 560 people across the state.
“It’s clear that the automotive industry is booming in Tennessee, and today’s announcement is the latest example,” TNECD Commissioner Stuart C. McWhorter said in the release. “We always appreciate foreign investment in this state, and brands like OPmobility help strengthen our reputation for being a state friendly to those businesses outside our borders.”
The release did not state how TNECD may contribute to the company for its expansion.
“OPmobility is excited by the new challenges given by the overall mobility transformation in the automotive industry,” Xavier Maury, OPmobility’s U.S. operations director, said. “We are proud to pursue our engagement and industrial excellence in Tennessee with one of the top OEM in vehicle electrification.”
The company was founded in 1946 and provides automotive and other mobility manufacturers with solutions such as intelligent exterior systems and battery and hydrogen electrification technology.
