Lucid Motors CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson made bold claims about his company’s technological advancements, stating that Lucid has overtaken Tesla in the electric vehicle (EV) race.
During an exclusive drive of the upcoming SUV Lucid Gravity with Fox Business, Rawlinson reflected on Tesla’s current state and highlighted Lucid’s achievements.
“Well, I think that if we look back in time 10, 15 years ago, Tesla was the tech leader. I think there’s a degree of distraction now. And I think that Lucid has taken that mantle. I believe we’re a number of years ahead in terms of our core technology from Tesla,” Rawlinson said.
He emphasized Lucid’s result in achieving five miles per kilowatt hour, a milestone he claims no other company has reached  .
Rawlinson, who previously served as Chief Engineer at Tesla, expressed concerns about Tesla’s focus. He pointed out that the company, once known for its groundbreaking innovations and clear mission, now seems distracted by non-core activities such as social media and political matters. This shift, according to Rawlinson, has diluted Tesla’s focus on advancing EV technology  .
Earlier this week, at the Evercore ISI 3rd Annual Global Summit, the chief executive revealed that the company is in discussions with several companies regarding potential licensing deals for its technology.
Rawlinson highlighted the company’s strategic focus on not just producing high-end vehicles, but also influencing the mass market to accelerate the transition to sustainable mobility.
As recently reported by local media in South Korea, Lucid Motors is reportedly gearing up to announce a partnership providing Hyundai’s premium brand, Genesis, with electric motors.
The collaboration aims to accelerate the development of a new all-electric sports car slated for a 2025 launch by Genesis. Additionally, Hyundai plans to release the GV90, an electric sport utility vehicle from Genesis by late 2025.
During the first quarter, the electric vehicle manufacturer Lucid delivered 1,967 vehicles, a nearly 40 percent growth compared to the first three months of last year. In the conference call that followed the earnings release, CEO Peter Rawlinson disclosed that over 500 of them were delivered to Saudi Arabia.
Lucid has reiterated its annual production guidance of 9,000 vehicles for 2024 despite warning investors that its cash reserves, cash equivalents, and investments are projected to last until the second quarter of next year.
