New technology can help tremors without incisions – WBTV

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – Tremor involves uncontrolled shaking of the body, though most frequently in the arm, hand, face, jaw, or voice.
The most common cause of tremors is an often hereditary condition known as essential tremors.
Deep brain stimulation has been the gold-standard surgical therapy for tremors since its development in the 1990s.
New technology, known as MR-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound, uses focused sound waves to create a lesion in the brain without having to make any incisions.
