NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) – North Platte residents will soon have the chance to draw up their dream skate park.
The North Platte Parks and Recreation Department is hosting an open house next Wednesday at City Hall for residents to submit their ideas on how they want the new skate park designed. It was authorized via a ballot measure as part of the recreation center renovation and expansion project.
The California-based consulting company will be in North Platte to take down people’s ideas to get the process started according to the superintendent of recreation Bob Barr.
“The open house will allow the community to come and give their design ideas to the consulting firm Spawn Ranch. So Spawn Ranch will give skate park 101 just an introduction on what they and what they are looking for is what people want in the skate park, what kind of features do they want, do they want it above ground, below ground, do they want bowls, or ramps or rails and things like that,” Barr said.
Barr also said that giving the people a chance to have their voices heard and to express their ideas on how the skate park should means everything.
“I think it is very important, and we definitely want people to give their input whether they can make the meeting or contact us or contact me personally and give their input and make sure the information gets there. Hopefully, they will have an online place where people can give their input but that is exactly what we want is everyone’s input. We are very excited about all of those projects; we have the tennis courts and pickleball construction going on right across the park from here, so there is a lot going on; busy time, but also very exciting times,” Barr said.
The new skate park in North Platte is hoped to be completed and ready for skaters of all ages by next summer.
