PRINCETON, NJ – During the last Board of Education meeting, Todd MacDonald was appointed as the new Chief Technology Officer at Princeton Public Schools. He will begin his new role in August.
MacDonald has more than 13 years of experience in education technology, most recently at Hillsborough Township Public Schools, where he has been part of the educational technology team since 2011.
Acting Superintendent Kathie Foster said that MacDonald stood out in a strong field of candidates.
“Todd MacDonald has a vision of how to implement technology solutions that will have a real impact on student learning,” Foster said.
“He is passionate about supporting teachers and staff and we look forward to welcoming him to the district.”
For the past 10 years, MacDonald has served as the technology integration coordinator at Hillsborough Township Public Schools. Prior to that, he held the position of technology integration specialist, also at HTPS. In addition, he has worked for the Lawrence Township School District as a technology integration specialist.
Prior to his career in education, he spent four years as a senior geographic information systems (GIS) mapping specialist for a navigation software company. He also worked at Princeton University as a technical support specialist.
MacDonald has a bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in economics from The College of New Jersey. He has a master’s degree in GIS and cartography from Temple University and an additional master’s degree from Drexel University in Learning Technologies.
His experiences include the implementation of educational technology, coordinating and supervising district-wide rollouts of student and staff devices, and serving as the liaison between technical teams and non-technical staff.
He also has experience in sustainable one-to-one device programs, Google Apps deployment, technology coaching, professional development, technical support, and project management.
“Integrating technology effectively into K-12 districts in this era of rapid technological innovation is an exciting, but challenging endeavor,” said MacDonald. “I’m looking forward to working with the PPS administration to leverage the district’s technology in strategic, effective ways that serve the needs of teachers and students.”
MacDonald said he was looking forward to leading the district technology team and implementing a forward-thinking, proactive approach to technology support, tech coaching, and professional development.
“I believe that PPS has the potential to be a leader in technology and that begins with true collaboration among district stakeholders. We need to collectively view technology not just as an enhancement tool, but as a catalyst for innovative learning,” he said.
MacDonald lives in Hopewell Township with his wife, also a long-time educator, their four children, and pets.
